These deer are British natives. Unlike most deer species, they are solitary, but form small groups in the cold months. I though I'd try some wintry sketches of a buck...
and a doe.....
Then this evening, I got a tweet from the National Trust, who saw this photo I took of the Fallow deer herd at Dyrham Park. They loved it and asked if they could use it in their social media promotional material! So I'm feeling that deer are very dear today!

It is a great shot, but I think I like your sketches even better!
Your paintings of the deer and roe are delightful.
I like the angle you've captured of the doe, as if she has just seen us.
Hello Jules, How lovely to see your natural journal page. I also keep those kinds of journals. We have a couple roe deer come visit the meadow beside us in Oxfordshire, and I leave apples for them. Also, I love the fallow deer at Charlecote park. Can't stop taking photos of them. Aren't they just the most charming, storybook creatures?
finding antlers is such a joy!
they are beautiful and better find than easter candy ;-)
your drawings are charming and your photos quite beautiful. I love their speckled backs and the grasses hanging from the antlers.

great painting and photo too how lucky t find an antler, mind you they lose them every year so there must be plenty lying around. Good to read your photo is being used for promotion, loving the rubbish caught in the antlers
Absolutely wonderful. Your sketches are always beautiful and love the photo of deer.
Fabulous sketches Jules and congratulations on having your lovely photograph included in the National Trust promotions! Deb xo
Very beautiful watercolor drawings you show here! But the deer photo is so cute with its unusual antlers hairstyle! Ulrike
Such a lovely set of images, Jules. I love the journal style nature sketch and congratulations again on the photograph. Your deer watercolours are so sweet. I'm glad Tammie's challenge prompted you to share them. :)
Dear Jules I tried to wish you on your birthday but my computer went crazy suddenly and would not let me so I am wishing you here a belated happy birthday. Hope you had a smashing day.
